ES-CRRC ENERGY STAR® Certification Process

Last update: September 7, 2011

The new ES-CRRC Program allows you to list your products on ENERGY STAR without rating your products through the CRRC Product Rating Program. If you do decide to list your products in both programs, the CRRC offers reduced rates and one-stop shop simplicity to gain ratings that are accepted by both ENERGY STAR and the California Energy Commission Title 24 program.

For more information, please reference the ES-CRRC Program Manual.

It's as Easy as 1-2-3!

Please send all documents via email to: melissa(at)coolroofs.org

Step 1: Ensure that you are an ENERGY STAR Partner

  • Existing ENERGY STAR Products: Continue to Step 2.
  • New Products (Not yet rated on ENERGY STAR): Check that your products meet the ENERGY STAR minimum values, outlined in Tables 1 and 2. If this is your first ENERGY STAR product you must become an ENERGY STAR Partner.

Table 1 – Specifications for Low-Slope Roof Products

Characteristic Performance Specification
Initial Solar Reflectance ≥ 0.65
Aged Solar Reflectance ≥ 0.50

Table 2 – Specifications for Steep-Slope Roof Products

Characteristic Performance Specification
Initial Solar Reflectance ≥ 0.25
Aged Solar Reflectance ≥ 0.15

Step 2: Submit product info and documents to ES-CRRC

Table 3 – ES-CRRC Program Fees

ES-CRRC Program Fees Initial Year Annual Renewal
Annual Fee - New Standard Rating
$164
$40
Annual Fee - New Color Family Group (Includes Representative Element)
$164
$40
Additional Fee - Condense Color Family Element to Color Family Group*
$23
Discount for products in both the CRRC and ENERGY STAR programs**
$77
$40
Verification Testing - Only Charged if product is selected***
~$925

*A partner is allowed to condense Color Family elements into one listing per Color Family group (e.g. listing 100 products in 17 color family groups). This differs from EPA's previous policy of listing each Color Family element separately.

**The CRRC Rating Program discount is for products listed in both programs. If a manufacturer has some products in the CRRC program and some solely in the ENERGY STAR program, then only those products in both the CRRC and ENERGY STAR program will receive the discount.

***Please note that this differs from the CRRC Product Rating Program, where Random Testing fees are factored into the Annual Renewal Fees. If a product listed with the CRRC and ENERGY STAR is chosen for both Random Testing (CRRC) and Verification Testing (ENERGY STAR) in the same year, then the CRRC will consider waiving those products Verification Testing fees. This price is an estimate of lab testing fees.

Step 3: Receive confirmation from ES-CRRC that your product has been uploaded to the ENERGY STAR website

  • All Products: ES-CRRC will send you a confirmation email with the ES-CRRC IDs for your ENERGY STAR products. This ID is a unique identifier for the ES-CRRC program, not for ENERGY STAR, and is used internally within the ES-CRRC Program to reference products. Please note that products in both the CRRC Product Rating Program and the ES-CRRC program will have two different IDs.

Questions? Please reference the ENERGY STAR Page, or feel free to contact ES-CRRC with any questions: info(at)coolroofs.org or (866) 645-2523.
