COOL ROOF RATING COUNCIL
The Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC) is an independent and non-biased organization that has established a rating system for displaying accurate radiative property data on the outermost layer of roof surfaces. Many products rated with the CRRC may improve the energy efficiency of buildings while positively impacting our environment. Interested parties, such as Building Code Bodies, Energy Service Providers, Architects & Specifiers, Property Owners and Community Planners may choose to use our Rated Products Directory to find the roofing product they are looking for.

CRRC Product Rating Program at a glance
The core of the CRRC is its Product Rating Program through which roofing product manufacturers can label their products with solar reflectance and thermal emittance values, measured by CRRC Accredited Independent Testing Laboratories. The CRRC does not set a minimum definition for "cool". We leave this to the code bodies and programs that reference our rating system. The CRRC simply lists the measured radiative property values on our Directory. Any roofing product can be tested as long as it is in compliance with the CRRC's Program Manual,
CRRC-1. A product's placement on the Directory does not mean that the product is "cool" as defined by any particular code body or program.

What is a Cool Roof?
While a cool roof may be defined differently by different codes or programs, in simple terms, a cool roof reflects and emits the sun's heat back to the sky instead of transferring it to the building below. "Coolness" is measured by two properties, solar reflectance and thermal emittance. Both properties are measured from 0 to 1 and the higher the value, the "cooler" the roof.
